Mating and Pregnancy
Relationships and procreation with the aim of keeping Garou around to fight in the next generation is a major theme of Werewolf for many players. Below you will find a summary of the rules around conception and pregnancy for Garou and Kin.
Mating
Garou usually may not take a mate until Fostern. The Tribal Elder’s permission is required for taking a mate, though usually this is but a formality, as long as the Garou and Kin are of the same tribe. No cross-tribal mating without permission from the Elders of both tribes, and getting permission is not likely to be easy.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is calculated in real-time. For a one-time sexual encounter, the date it happens is obviously the conception date. For an established relationship, pick a date with the month of the successful pregnancy roll for the conception date.
Conception
Any female Garou or Kinfolk character having unprotected sex must make a pregnancy roll once per month during which the sex happens. This roll is made using percentile dice.
01-70 % = not pregnant
71-95 % =pregnant
96-100%= pregnant with twins
For the purpose of rolling percentile dice, a “10” on the dice roller is considered a zero, except when two tens are rolled, which is considered “100”. So, rolling “10, 5” would be “05”, while “10,10” is 100.
Now for the purpose of families that have twins already present, the percentage for twins will be greater.
01-65 % = not pregnant
66-85% = pregnant
86-100 % = pregnant with twins
Gender
Roll one d10, standard difficulty (6). Failure means a boy, success means a girl. This roll, however, is a player biased roll. If the player wishes to have a girl and they roll for a boy they may decide to have a girl instead. If they are happy with the roll, then they may keep the outcome.
Trueborn
To find out whether the child is Garou or Kin, the roll depends on a number of factors.
Garou/Kin paring
If one parent is Garou and one is Kin, the base chance of having a trueborn child is 10%. If the Kinfolk parent has pure breed, the chance of having a trueborn child increases by 5% for every dot of Pure Breed the Kin has. If the Garou parent has pure breed, the amount of dots drops the percentage by 1%.
So with that said….
90 % is base for no pure breed at all.
Pure Breed 1 Kinfolk 85% Garou 84%
Pure Breed 2 Kinfolk 80% Garou 78%
Pure Breed 3 Kinfolk 75% Garou 72%
Pure Breed 4 Kinfolk 70% Garou 66%
Pure Breed 5 Kinfolk 65% Garou 60%
Now with all that said, if you have any questions, please ask a story teller. Otherwise, enjoy….
